Bread & Pizza & Wood-Fired Ovens
They are everywhere. Have you noticed?
Peter Berley, inspired by the ingredients of breadmaking in his new kitchen in North Fork, Long Island, NY, sent us this beautiful video of bread baking, including his wife Meg’s inspired tile design for the façade of this indoor wood-fired oven:
Not long ago, we spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon, watching the creation of pizza from Daisy Flour dough at Earth Bread + Brewery on Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia www.earthbreadbrewery.com
Then we recalled: It’s been a few years since we held a flour-comparing, crust-reviewing pizza party at the Nomad Pizza shop near Princeton, New Jersey.
Next thing we knew, our friends Rob Flory and Matt Wilkinson were hosting backyard pizza parties and we gathered around their home-built wood-fired ovens.
Soon thereafter, we visited Roberta’s well-known space in Brooklyn, NY, and managed to take a photo of this shimmering oven there.

What’s Next:
In Daisy Flour’s home-town of Lancaster, PA, local potter Kevin Lehman has been experimenting with outdoor pizza parties in his wood-fired potter’s kiln and we are planning a benefit party there with Daisy Flour, plenty of pizza, and some local microbrews.
